What each report shows
Start with the free preview. It confirms the car and tells you how many issues we found in its records, without saying what they are.

What no report can show
Service history, previous adverts and the car's condition today. We don't offer a data guarantee, so have the car inspected and check the V5C logbook before you buy.
How the mileage check works
Collect every reading
MOT testers record the odometer at each test. We take all of them, converting kilometres to miles.
Put them in date order
Each reading should be higher than the one before. We compare every reading with the highest one so far.
Flag what doesn't add up
A lower reading, a long gap without a test or an unreadable odometer each get a clear warning.
A lower reading can mean the odometer was wound back, or that a tester mistyped a number. Ask the seller for service records and receipts that show mileage.
When you see the car
Public records only go so far. These checks take ten minutes and catch most problems.
- Match the V5C logbook
- The VIN on the V5C should match the one on the windscreen and the chassis. The seller's name and address should match where you're viewing the car.
- Compare the odometer
- The mileage on the dashboard should be higher than the last MOT reading in this check.
- Read the service history
- Stamps and invoices should show mileage that fits the MOT timeline.
- Don't pay before you view
- Never send a deposit for a car you haven't seen, and use a traceable payment method.

Questions buyers ask
What's the difference between Basic and Premium?
Basic covers everything in the MOT and mileage records: every reading, lower readings and gaps, failures, defects, advisories and recurring problems. Premium adds commercial history data: insurance write-offs, outstanding finance, stolen checks, scrapped, import and export status, plate and keeper changes, a valuation and the factory specification.
Why doesn't the free preview tell me what you found?
The preview counts the issues in the MOT and mileage records, so you know whether a report is worth buying. The details are in the report. Write-off, finance and stolen records are only looked up when you buy Premium, so the preview never shows them.
Can a report prove a car has been clocked?
No. It shows readings that don't add up, which is a strong reason to ask questions. A tester's typing mistake can cause the same pattern, so check service records and receipts before you decide.
How do the 3 Premium reports work?
You get a Premium report for the car you're checking straight away, plus 2 credits for other cars. We email you a credits link straight away, and the phone or computer you bought on remembers them too. To use one, enter another registration and choose "Use a credit" on the free preview. Credits last 12 months, and lost links can be sent again from Find my reports. Credits you haven't used can be refunded within 14 days of purchase.
Is there a data guarantee?
No. Our reports use official MOT records and commercial vehicle history data, but we don't offer a guarantee or compensation if a record is wrong or missing. Have the car inspected and check the V5C logbook before you buy.
Why is there no MOT history for my car?
Cars don't need an MOT until they are three years old, so newer cars have no tests yet. A Premium report can still check write-off, finance and stolen records.
What about private or cherished plates?
The history follows the vehicle, not the plate, so the check still works. The age letters and numbers on a private plate don't tell you how old the car is, and Premium lists earlier plate changes.
Do you keep the registrations I search?
We log searches for a short time to keep the service secure and working, and send the registration to our data suppliers to fetch the records. We never see or show the keeper's name or address. Read the privacy notice.
